Saint Seiya is a shonen anime/manga franchise from the 80s that's still going strong, but that it's not as well-known in English spaces. My requests are about characters from the original anime/manga, the one from 1986. The premise is very simple: Athena, the Greek goddess, has reincarnated as a human girl. She has a very devoted order of Saints, ie. traumatized child soldiers/shonen protagonists. While the anime looks very long, tbh, you can skip large swathes of it.
Thirty years and counting! Kurumada's hold on my id still remains. I LOVE LOVE the outsized, dramatic reactions; the fact that everybody here is a traumatized child soldier; the 80s fashion; the deep bond between the Bronze Saints; the … whatever that is… between the Gold Saints. I just adore it.
I'm open to modern AUs for this canon (or weird afterlife scenarios that aren't being punished by the gods for all eternity). Also happy Everybody Lives AUs with no explanation. For any ship: post-canon and backstory works are both equally welcomed!
For art: one of the things I love about the anime in particular is the BOLD BACKGROUNDS and dramatic standing still scenes, the symbols being so overt, etc. So that'd be something cool to see in your own style. At the same time, I'd love to see the opposite of that: quiet moments that are more peaceful because these characters never got that chance.
I'd also be ecstactic to get explicit art with long hair and six-packs as far as the eye can see
Reigning Kings of Idiot Mountain. I've been shipping this for thirty years. My preferred take is a situation where it's not unrequited, but it never happened because Camus never managed to admit his feelings. I like the tension of Milo not being a priority for Camus and how betrayed he feels every time, before he relents and forgives Camus again.
I also like how Milo might come off as arrogant but he's actually more controlled and dutiful than Camus. He's very much about honor in a way that Camus isn't. And I love how Camus insists on not having feelings and then makes emotional dumb decisions again and again.
A classic! When I rewatched the series, I was surprised by how actually developed Shun and Hyoga’s relationship is. Hyoga is always so supportive of Shun and isn’t so protective of him. He trusts him as a fellow Saint. Meanwhile, Shun’s sacrifice in the House of Libra is what gets Hyoga to stop screaming for his mother quite so much (really! I swear he stops doing that so much!). Hyoga was never sure that anybody else but his mom loved him and suddenly he has very tangible proof that others care too.
So I really like how they build a nice, working friendship in the emotional wasteland that’s Saint Seiya. I’d love to see a classic friends-to-lovers scenario or them being annoyingly domestic or h/c.
