I like bold styles and meta touches. I love that art can convey the impact of pivotal moments so quickly and distill a ship dynamic or a character’s personality into one image. So I like art that packs a conceptual punch, so to speak, and is rich with symbolism.

I love art set in liminal spaces or that illustrates a moment just before disaster - or the calm after the storm. I like bold, graphical elements as background as well. I like collages because juxtaposition can create really interesting layers of meaning.

On a technical level, I don't have the vocabulary to really explain what I like. This section isn't meant to be 'draw me stuff in this style' - I want to see your own interpretation -, but rather a way of showing what I enjoy. Maybe as an artist you'll have an easier time than me seeing if there are elements in common you can use!

Art styles/techniques I enjoy (and can recognize)

Vintage ad illustrations up to and including the 70s, Art Deco, Arts & Crafts, 70s shoujo manga, Ai Yazawa, Araki-Himeno character design, old classic books illustrations, nature illustration, certain cartoony styles (Penny below is a good example of what I mean), 60s Alberto Breccia & Golden Age of Historieta Argentina in general, ukiyo-e and shin-hanga, stenciling & flyposting as street art

Artists I like

My Twitter is mainly art I like.

Sofi Sepia>: I like the clean lines and the… light feel of it.

Penny: I find it very cute and I like the way she uses colours.

Cactusauria: I love the use of colour and the realism of the natural elements.

La Tini: I love the queering of the original style and the vintageness of her style.

Maro Margulis: I really like how unexpected the colour feels and how it contrasts with the more realistic style.
